Style Icon – Daphne Guinness

Daphne Guinness - The Glove

There is no better way to start my fashionably late entry into the world of blogging by sharing with everyone the style icon I have respected for a long time – Daphne Guinness.

Daphne Guinness carries a discriminatingly strong personal style and wears haute couture effortlessly. I admire her strong advocate to dress to her creative sense of style. She claimed to never been paid to wear anything from a designer, but happy to wear clothes designed by her friends; which conveniently includes luxury designer Karl Lagerfeld as well as dominatrix-inspired designers such as late Alexander McQueen and Azzedine Alaia.

To honor the Guinness brewery heiress’ closet of avant-garde couture, FIT held an exhibition in New York showcasing her closet that consisted of a wide range of remarkable designers that ended last week. It is like every fashionista’s dream-come-true to rake her closet as she unveiled over 100 pieces of true Daphne Guinness style to the public.

While I have a more subdued personal style compared to the dark glamour-style icon, I admire Daphne Guinness’ fearless presentation of herself; and I agree with her quote on identifying in fashion without being a fashion person. I am innately shy, as Daphne Guinness claims herself to be as well, so this is an inspiration for me to evolve and explore beyond my existing style.
